Innovation and Technology and Culture and Tourism Ministries sign an agreement to modernize the Tourism sector with Digital Technologies

The Agreement will help to promote the tourism sector by supporting tourism data, marketing, and promotional activities through digital technologies
The agreement includes developing and deploying an online gallery and exhibition portal, supporting the sector through electronic library and automation, making documents digitally accessible, emplacing digital follow-up and support system, implementing customer service system to tourist service providers at tourist destination.


Abraham Belay (Ph.D.) Minister, Ministry of Innovation and Technology and Hirut Kassew (Ph.D.) Minister to Ministry of Culture and Tourism signed the agreement.
At the signing ceremony, Dr. Abraham Belay said, “Tourism is one of the priorities of the government, our ministry will implement series of projects for digitalization of the sector”
Dr. Hirut Kassew appreciated the Ministry of innovation and Technology’s contribution to modernizing the tourism sector and support to manage the forex income the sector generates.
Creating a digital payment system, implementing virtual tour and similar technologies, modernizing the digital system, digital interpretation, building smart tourist destinations, and modernizing tourist service providers are also part of the agreement signed by the two Ministries.
Tourism is identified as one of the priority sectors in Ethiopia’s Digital Transformation Strategy 2025.
